Yoyoers such as JD, Hiroyuki Suzuki, Yuuki Spencer, and Jensen Kimmitt are well-known for their competition styles, which have particularly high trick densities. Naturally, because of the competitive success of these yoyoers, they are often stylistically imitated by aspiring yoyoers. However, as an intermediate or even advanced yoyoer, it's not always easy to figure out just what's going on in a video, particularly if it's subtle. Thus it's not uncommon to see yoyoers building tricks with lots of string hits but little if any substance.

This is also the most salient manifestation of the string hits are points misconception, and is a common indicator that a yoyoer is pointwhoring.
