Stall

invented: antiquity, but popularized in modern yoyoing by Yuuki Spencer

Not to be confused with 5A stall.

A stall is a response trick where the yoyo is returned partially or fully, except instead of being caught as usual, the yoyo is stopped and balanced on the hand, string, or something else before being thrown back out again. Similar to a regeneration in effect, stalls can vary in scope from simple flourishes to full-scale tricks in their own right.

Stalls have been in existence for a long time, as they are closely related to regenerations and easily executed with looping yoyos. However, they were not popular in modern 1A until approximately 2005 when Yuuki Spencer made them so, the tricky devil.
