aka: regen invented: antiquity

A regeneration is a response trick where the yoyo is returned to the hand, except it is flicked back out before it finishes returning, allowing the yoyoer to maintain or increase the spin without technically throwing it again.

The standard way to do this results in a reversal of the yoyo's direction of spin. This deters some people from relying on regens—most players heavily favor sidestyle and run out of frontstyle tricks very quickly.

Although uncommon in use, it is possible to flip the yoyo over during the regen, resulting in the same direction of spin after the regen.

In classic yoyoing, regenerations are the basis for many fundamental tricks, including in their standard form planet hops and shoot the moon, as well as with a flip in loops, hops, and warp drive.
