A ballistic trick is a trick in which rather than forcing the yoyo or string into place by pulling or twirling it, one or both are released from the yoyoer's direct control, relying on inertia and gravity (ballistics) to put them where the yoyoer wants.
Ballistic tricks involving the string, such as suicides, are particularly sensitive to wind conditions. Many yoyoers prefer indoor contests because rain and other weather conditions are sidestepped, but particularly because wind is not an issue.
