aka: open mount, open string

Generally the first trick an aspiring yoyoer will learn, the sleeper is quite simply the term for when the yoyo is spinning at the end of the string. Being able to throw and maintain a strong sleeper is a crucial fundamental skill as almost every modern yoyoing concept revolves around it.

In terms of mounts, open mount refers to when the yoyo is unmounted and hanging freely, especially with a sidestyle spin. This is the basic position from which lacerations, hooks, and most binds (including the open slack bind) as well as many picture tricks start.
